------------------------------------------------------ :.:.:Guide to Ruby/Sapphire version Gym leaders:.:.: Rustboro City gym Leader:Roxanne Pokemon:Geodude L:14, Nosepass L:15
This gym leader specializes in rock pokemon. Good thing that you haven't been able to catch electric pokemon yet because you wouldn't use them. The leader specializes the move Rock tomb. Its a move with decent power and will lower speed, but it isn't very accurate. If you started the game with Mudkip(water) or Treecko(grass), you don't need me to wish you good luck, because their super-effective. Alternatively, a decently strong Shroomish and/or Lotad(Lotad only found on sapphire). Beat her and she will give you the Stone badge, some cash and TM39(Rock Tomb). Use that TM on the right pokemon, it is very useful!!
Dewford Town gym Leader:Brawly
Pokemon:MachopL:17, MakuhitaL:18
This gym leader specializes in Fighting-type. Don't bring any of your favorite sturdy rock or steel-types in here, neither any of your normal-types. He has a special move called Bulk-up. This move increases his Attack and Defense, in one move. In the north-Dewford cave you can pick up Sableye(Dark/Ghost) or you should use a well trained Ralts(Psychic-type). None of their attacks effect it, I don't think...So it is helpful. Alternatively, overwhelm him with you're strongest pokemon other that the types listed above. Beat him to get TM08(Bulk up), some more cash, a Knucklebadge and pokemon up to Level 30 will obey you, even if you got them in trades. Mauville City Leader:Wattson Pokemon:MagnemiteL:22, VoltorbL:20, MagnetonL:23
This gym leader specializes in Electric-type. Don't bother bringing water-types into this gym, apart from water/ground types eg. the evolutions of starting pokemon, Mudkip. This battle will be hard because Magnemite and Magneton are both steel. Not many capturable pokemon in the game yet have moves that are effective against the steel-type. The fire-type starting pokemon shouldn't be a problem now, because fire beats steel. I suggest you take the Voltorb down quickly before he thinks he is going to faint. If not, he will use selfdestruct and waste your good pokemon for the rest of the match. If you win you will get TM34(Shock Wave), a bundle of cash and the Dynamo Badge. This is another good TM, use it on the strong electric-type! Lavaridge Town Leader:Flannery Pokemon:SlugmaL:26, SlugmaL:26, TorkoalL:28
This gym leader specializes in Fire-type. Grass, Bugs and Steel are burned up by it. She has a move called Overheat, a move narrowly more powerful than Fire-Blast. This is annoying because it packs a huge punch, but lowers the user's sp.attack by 2, so it is surprisingly weak when used by the same pokemon twice, and it will also power down that pokemon's other fiery moves.
Douse her pokemon with water types or just use rock or ground. If you started off with Mudkip and it is at least a level 26 or higher Marshtomp by now, there shall be no problemo. Beating her will give you TM50(Overheat), a decent bundle of cash, the Heat Badge and pokemon up to level 50 will obey you, even if you got them in trades. This TM is good to teach to a strong fire type because it is stronger than Fire-Blast and is best used in sticky situations. Petalburg City gym Leader:Norman(Dad)
Pokemon:SlakingL:28, VigorothL:30, SlakingL:31
Norman, known to you as "Dad" specializes Normal-type. Taking Fighting-type into the gym will take him out quick and easy. This battle will be long if you bring a sturdy and strong rock and/or steel-type. This gym leader has a special move known as Facade. It is powerful on its own, even more because Slaking has one of the highest attack ratings in the game, and the effect of the attack is that the power doubles if the user is Poisoned, Burned or Paralyzed. Don't bother trying to inconvenience him with any of these. He will turn them into an advantage. I suggest you take his pokemon down with quick, strong fighting types. A well trained Combusken(evolution of starting pokemon, Torchic) will be perfect because it is fighting type. Remember, if his strong Slaking says "Slaking is tightening its focus", remember to attack him hard with an attack that does damage to make him lose his focus. If not, he will use Focus Punch, a Fighting-type move that is equally powerful to Hyper-Beam. Beat him and you will earn TM42(Facade), a bundle of cash and Balance Badge. Use the TM on a normal-type. Swellow or Linoone are good choices! Fortree City gym Leader:Winona
Pokemon:SwellowL:31, SkarmoryL:32, PelipperL:30, AltariaL:33
This gym leader specializes in Flying-type. I'm not going to shout "ELECTRIC TYPE" yet because there is a problem.
The special move here is Aerial Ace. Its a decent power move that goes without miss. Don't bother making an effort to heighten evasiveness. Bring a good electric pokemon into here with a good electric attack. use it to take down Swellow, Pelipper and Skarmory. Altaria is troublesome. It has Earthquake attack, Dragonbreath and Aerial ace. Furthermore, it'll try to increase the power of these moves with Dragon Dance, a Attack and Speed heightening attack. I was going to suggest this pokemon
It's name is Castform. A cute normal type pokemon. You probably picked it up at the Weather Institute. It has a Powder snow attack, good against Altaria's both Dragon and Flying types. A decent LVL:28 or over one of these should win... Anyway, beat her to get TM40(Aerial Ace), a bigger bundle of cash than before, the Feather badge and pokemon up to level 70 will obey you, even if you got them in trades. Mossdeep city gym Leader:Tate&Liza
Pokemon:SolrockL:42, LunatoneL:42
These two kids are psychic-type specialists. I think you'd agree with us that this leader takes the fun out of 2VS2 battling. Boy are you going to have trouble if all you have is a powerful fighting pokemon. That Solrock has been taught Flamethrower and Solarbeam, also backed by its move "Sunny Day", which will power up Flamethrower and let Solarbeam hit in one turn without powerup. We always use a strong water type as well as a decent trained Lairon(Evolution of Aron) with good metal moves to take these guys out. Take them out to get TM21(Calm Mind), heaps of cash and the Mind badge. Sootopolis City gym Leader:Wallace
Pokemon:LuvdiscL:40, WhiscashL:42, SealeoL:40, SeakingL:42, MiloticL:43
Hehe, This gym is my favorite out of all of them. This guy uses water-type pokemon, he's got a formidable team of them too. Hes really cool. He enjoys using a good water move called Water Pulse. This move may confuse your pokemon and all his pokemon know the move. I suggest a good electric genderless pokemon against the Luvdisc to prevent the annoying attract and punch it down quickly. The Whiscash you should take down with Grass pokemon moves since it is Ground-type and electricity doesn't effect. The Seaking and Sealeo are easily beaten with a jolt of electricity. Try to take the Milotic down the same way quickly or it will use Recover. Anyhow, beat him to get TM03(Water Pulse), a big sack of cash, the Rain Badge and now all pokemon will obey you, even traded ones. That's the end of the gym guide. I hope you enjoyed using and reading it as much as we enjoyed writing it. By now, I guess your stuck on the league? We've got more! Come to our Elite Four Guide, that'll tell you everything! |
